Dr Andreas Papatheodorou is a founding member and partner of Air Consulting in charge of Air Transport and Tourism. He is an Assistant Professor in Industrial Economics with emphasis on Tourism at the Department of Business Administration, University of the Aegean, Greece. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow of the Tourism and Travel Research Institute at the University of Nottingham, a Visiting Senior Fellow at the School of Management, University of Surrey and an External Examiner at the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. Dr Papatheodorou sits in the Executive Board of the Hellenic Aviation Society and he is an active member of the German Aviation Research Society and the British Tourism Society.
Andreas holds a MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and a DPhil in Geography from the same university. He started his academic career as a Lecturer in Tourism at the University of Surrey, where among other things, he co-designed and co-directed a new MSc Programme in Tourism and Air Transport Management. Dr Papatheodorou is actively engaged in air transport and tourism research, focusing on issues related to competition, pricing, corporate strategy and relations between airlines, travel distributors and tourism destinations. Most of his work has been published in highly esteemed international academic journals of the sector including the Journal of Air Transport Management and Annals of Tourism Research. He is the editor of the book "Corporate Rivalry and Market Power: Competition Issues in the Tourism Industry" published by IB Tauris in London and New York.
Andreas has also offered his services as an Advisor to the Greek Government on tourism policymaking and development and conducts air transport and tourism education seminars organised in Africa and the Middle East by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Arab Air Carriers Organisation (AACO). Executives from Afriqiyah Airways, Royal Wings, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Sudan Airways, Syrianair, Tunisair and the Supreme Commission for Tourism of Saudi Arabia have attended seminars by Dr Papatheodorou and subsequently sought his advice on various issues. Andreas has also participated in European Union consultancy projects such as the ALLWAYS TOURISM consortium sponsored by the European Social Fund, HERMES (Harnessing Employment, Regional Mobility and Entrepreneurship in Southeastern Europe) and TEMPUS (Trans-European mobility scheme for university studies).
Dr Andreas Papatheodorou speaks four languages (Greek, English, French and German). In 1994 he graduated with Excellence from the National Conservatory of Athens and was a professional classical guitarist for a short term; he is still organising music soirées for charity on an occasional basis. He is an active squash player but also enjoys swimming and sailing in his leisure time! |
